Inquirer: Fence Forgone

Philadelphia Inquirer reports “a great day for freedom.”

A controversial security plan that called for construction of a permanent six-foot-high wrought-iron fence through Independence Square has been largely scuttled by the National Park Service and Independence National Historical Park.

At a news conference yesterday at Independence Visitor Center, new Park Service director Mary A. Bomar said the fence would give way to "less intrusive" security measures.
