Daily News: Detailing Evil

Philadelphia Daily News discusses killer’s profiles.

We know more about Charles Carl Roberts IV than we want to.

Because he was arrested for killing a police officer, we do know something of Solomon Montgomery. The 23-year-old was arrested in May for holding up a bar and killing Officer Gary Skerski.

Both men represent the breakdown of a society, and of individual humans. Even though Roberts was reported as having no history of mental illness, his actions were those of a severely disturbed human. We read all the details about his life as evidence of a human disintegrating, for a variety of personal and other reasons.

For all we know, Montgomery was the same.

Neither deserves sympathy. And it's a good thing it's not up to us to claim whether they ever deserve forgiveness.
